This was my dream car from when I first saw it in 1966:

I did own one in the mid 1990s and was not disappointed. I would still like one again but maybe the dream is this one:

"Dream Cars, the new show at the Atlanta High Museum of Art, encapsulates our ongoing fascination with retro futurism. Auto shows are always good for visitor numbers, and Dream Cars (opening on 21 May) adds an additional slice of yearning nostalgia, offering up a choice selection of 17 of the most weird and wonderful conceptual car designs that (mostly) never made it into the real world."

First paragraph of the linked article.

Here's another example, this time from Ferrari:

And for those nostalgic for a never-happened Past:

A Jensen FF. Arguably the first production 4WD Sports Car. I've always wondered what one felt like.

Not really a sports car but a true Grand Touring car, the Interceptor was dubbed the Gentleman's Express.

I rarely drove my Interceptor at high speed but I happily remember when keeping to the speed limit along a restricted road I had a modern (at the time) 7 Series BMW pestering me for a couple of miles. We came to a dual carriageway and a derestricted area and he went to overtake so I put the pedal down now it was legal to do so. The old girl picked up her skirts and flew, left the Beemer standing. All from a lazy 7.2 litres and a 3 speed auto box and with no complaints or particularly loud noise. 330 bhp was quite good for those days and it was delivered in style.

Actually my REAL dream would be a Jaguar XKE V-12.. the "Torpedo" body style... late 60's early 70's..

[spoiler=Personal Story and reasons WHY I find this car so alluring]
My only ride in one involved a bicycle accident, a gorgeous red haired woman in a tight red dress, and lots of blood......

18 year old very thin and fit me was riding my racing Motobecane down a busy road in Missouri in the summer. Shirtless, running shorts, helmet. I was pushing it... standing and leaning over the handlebars and really pushing to get to the speed of traffic.. about 30-35 mph. Crossing a bridge, and the chain... snapped. And I did a perfect header over the handlebars at high speed. And a flawless scraaaape along the road, and a rap of the head that caused brief unconsciousness. I briefly came to to see a dump truck bearing down on me, and rolled off the road into the shoulder, where I passed out again.

I woke to a vision... a statuesque lady leaning over me shaking my shoulder, her long red hair shining in the sun, her tight red dress showing her perfect figure, and her long, bright red XKE V-12 convertible parked next to her.

I stammered "Are you an angel ? Am I dead ?"

She laughed, and said, "No. But I think you had an accident. Can you get up ? "

I staggered up, dragged my shirt off the cargo rack on the back of the bike to wrap around the bleeding wound in my side. She easily picked up the remains of my bike and placed it in the boot, helped me into the passenger seat, and drove me home. I don't remember much of the ride.. I think I bled onto those amazing leather seats, but I was mostly gazing at her profile. Hey.. when you're a teenager, the womanly form can trump even the worst physical trauma. My mind raced through myriad hormone fueled fantasies... until I realized that she knew me. She knew where I lived. Then I realized that she was friends with my mother, and attended our church with her family.

My fantasies dead, I began to feel the pain of my injuries. She left my bike on the lawn, and I apologized for bleeding in her car, and thanked her for rescuing me. And walked to the front door, and rang the bell.

My younger sister opened the door, looked at me, all covered in blood, screamed, and slammed the door in my face. I dragged myself into the house, and took a shower, carefully picking the gravel out of all my wounds, then bandaged myself up.

It took a month for the injuries to heal. Road rash is a biotch... down to the bone on my elbow, the heels of both hands almost skinned, my left knee and leg missing a good chunk of flesh, and a hole in my side almost down to the ribs. I also learned NEVER use regular gauze pads on an open wound and leave them there. The skin grew into the gauze... I had to cut the pieces of gauze out with an Xacto knife off and on for a few weeks. That hurt....

A year later I took my guardian angel's daughter out on a date, at my mother's prompting. She was a younger version of her mother, and.. wow. But... we didn't click, and that was the only date.

Paul Like Deloreans, Jensens just won't die. There is a company, that from ~110K quid, will take your wheezing old Interceptor and bring it back from the brink of death. The Supercharged version has 550 BHP.
Here's Clarkson's take:
