"No one's going to buy a big phone"

BULL! In addition to an iPhone 5s, I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 ...

testcase, chill ! - as noted amply (I think) above, no one actually said "no one's going to buy a big phone".

...and after sufferring through the last three years with my company-issued Blackberry, I think I'm probably going to bite the bullet and buy an iPhone 6 out of my own pocket.

I bought my MBP directly from Apple.com right after the 17" was EOLed so, it's 2.25 years old now. I have Apple Care until next June and fully expect it to be viable for several years after that (my Pismo was a trouper for over eight years!).

I have an early 2011 17", also with AppleCare (until November '16) I love. It sits on my treadmill desk where a 15" wouldn't work at all.

I think Jobs was wrong about smaller pads not having value for a lot of people, however I'm sure that with his vision of magazine reading, some light creative work and so on, the standard size pad is still ideal.

But he was right about huge phones. Yes they are available and yes some people have them. Some. Not many.

At the very least I think it's safe to say that the iPhone 6Plus user highly values things like games, reading and videos at least as much as they do being able to make a call on it. Smile

Bigger is not always better (or so I tell my wife.) I have a tablet, I have no wish for a phablet. But others obviously do as AAPL is up $3 from yesterday's close.

Was he wrong? There is an optimum size for handhelds and the new giant phones are not it.

These huge phones optimize for something other than pocketability and one-handed operation…

Yes, he was wrong. Pocketability doesn't imply optimum usability, and most standard pants/jeans pockets—at least Levis—will still easily accommodate a 5 inch phone. The older 4 inch size might be useful for one-handed operation, but that may be overrated; most people (that I see) use their iPhone two-handed. You can't type and securely grip the phone, otherwise.

The 7 inch tablet quote that decay posted is high irony, considering the iPod Touch was a mere 3.5 inches, and nobody had to sharpen their fingers to use it. Smile

And your wife, being the diplomat that most wives have to be, answers reassuringly, "I know, honey! You've told me that a thousand times." :quotes:

She also said, "I hope it's waterproof."

The iPhone 6 GS3 size is about right for me. If it could morph into iPhone 6 Note 4 size for travel, and then shrink back down for everyday use, it would be perfect.

Some of the iPhone users at work tried out my HTC One M8 because it is so close in size. I think only the woman with small hands is not going to get a 6 plus.
