Yep, this can be serious as Dennis said. You need to get them out, soon! Forget the humane stuff. Nobody love crits more than me, but there comes a time when you have to get serious with some of them. That's why it's called PEST control... Let us know what you find.

No rodenticides!! Only takes a small amount in a mouse or rat to kill a predator (owl, hawk, eagle, etc). I use humane traps (there are several on Amazon) and relocate the critters. Unless they are dumb enough to actually come into the living areas where my cats dispose of them. Ignore them and they can bring friends and multiply.

Yeah, the problem is...it's in the wall. Without breaking through, not sure I'd get a trap in. The other option is to smoke it out somehow, with something that won't stink for the humans in the house. The sound devices seem like a waste of money.

They come into the house from some point and will leave for food and water. Look for droppings in all rooms, especially an attached garage as well as kitchen cabinets. Also look around foundation, openings for vents and crawl spaces are targets. The traps can be placed where droppings are found. I caught my intruders on my deck.

No, I have not seen any mice or.droppings around food. The critter seems to be using this habitation in the evening, so I'm thinking squirrel.

My parents had a squirrel chew it's way into the attic. It roamed the walls while they were away on vacation and chewed on several wires. If I had killed it with poison, I would have never found the damage and known to repair it.
