Where to buy guitar strings?

Quickest solution is to buy from a local music store.

Otherwise, I'd hit Musician's Friend or Amazon.

Right, if I needed one NOW, I'd just hit the closest store. Preferably not Guitar Center, unless they were having a good sale...

But if you can wait a couple days, yeah, Amazon.
Me? I've been playing without a D string for a the last couple of weeks. I remember Pat Metheny used to test himself by playing minus one string, or only the first three strings - all kinds of exercises. So I'm not in a hurry. I can't even remember where I bought the last pair of strings. Every music store around here has moved at least twice since I last purchased...

Ricky Wilson always played with one or two strings missing.

Lindsey Buckingham wannabe.

I swear that dude plays half his stuff with like 2 strings on his guitar.

I 3rd the Elixirs. I have a guitar I just noodle on, and the elixirs still have some zing after 2yrs. I agree with dennis that uncoated strings can sound better, but for what you want...

I bought some strings at http://www.juststrings.com/ and was happy with the service and price. Perhaps amazon might be easier, but just for another option.

Fwiw, my martin came with some martin coated strings (I think?) that sound really good and have lasted quite a while, just as another option. kj.

I was able to buy single strings from amazon last year. I use a hybrid set for my classical. If they have something you like, get a set with extra 1st 2nd and 4th strings. Usually go with D'Addario, but I've used pretty much everything else in a pinch.

Elixirs started out as GHS strings dipped in Goretex. I don't know who makes them now.

Amazon has a large selection. doesn't sound like you change strings for that SG very often and i can't tell if you care to. don't change the strings on my electric very much either. D'Addario is a good solid brand for most string things. Elixirs or DR will last you quite a while.

might check out Curt Mangan Strings. i really liked the sound of some of their acoustic offerings and was using them exclusively on my Santa Cruz OM Grand until SC started their own string brand. don't know if Mangan's electrics are similarly well made and regarded.

I read somewhere they are made by SIT, but who knows. They've changed the coating several times, and they have a new one coming out called optiweb that sounds interesting. I generally like D'addarios, but had some coated D'addario bass strings, and they were rubbery and sticky. During a gig I burned my finger on them, so they're gone ;-) DR's flake if you use a pick, so I'm not a fan. Btw, I think it does say the coating is made by Gore. Gor-tex is quite a good product, so that doesn't bug me. To some extent I think a string is a string, although I know few agree. kj.

SIT was made by GHS several years ago. I looked into having my own line made and GHS was by far the most amenable but I didn't like their guitar strings nearly as much as D'Addarios.
