Amazon..Im not using them any more..Been reading

I’m in the same boat as RAMd@d and jdc.
I price shop all around. Whomever has the lowest price gets my money. Except Walmart, they are a last resort. I have been a member at Costco since 2003 wife has been a member of SamsClub since 2006. Costco membership pays for itself and Samsclubs membership fees with its cash back. I try to avoid Walmart, a million checkout lanes and only two checkers with a million people in line (no thanks).

FWIW- Amazon is like a strip mall with a bunch of vendors. The vendors send their crap to Amazon to sell, Amazon gets a cut and the vendors sell their stuffs (shipped by Amazon prime). Win win. Amazon doesn’t own everything they sell, but they do get a cut of sales. So....... boycotting Amazon also means you are boycotting a lot of vendors.

A recent example: I recently had to order a ABS speed sensor for my car. (No speed sensor, no ABS) Not stocked locally. $47 and change from local box automotive shops. $27 and change on Amazon. Prime shipping saved the day again.

It's been about 17 years since I put Walmart* in the category of "Retailer of Last Resort." I started documenting their evils and got up to about 28 items. Most of the retailers on jdc's list have issues of some sort but Walmart* was clearly (at least to me) the worst of any major retailer in just about every category. They have gotten slightly better in the last 5 years. I don't know if they changed because someone in the company actually got a conscience or they did it only to improve the PR.

Amazon really flubbed one of my deliveries orders (it never left the shipping dock) and I haven't used them since. I would have expected them to just re-send everything as soon as I got up two levels in customer service, but there was something odd about it and after a couple of days they said I had to place a new order. The delay meant it couldn't arrive before I started my after holiday travels so I bought everything really vital locally and punted them.

I have yet to hear anything bad about Amazon that:
-Is true
-Is not true of other places
-Is not something other places wish they could do and often eventually start doing
-Isn't due to a third party and often ends up being fixed down the road

Meanwhile their customer service goes way above anywhere else. The Mrs bought a pair of headphones for me. There was an issue with one ear pad. She got a great deal. They were out of stock. They offered to refund the full retail price so we could buy a replacement from the mfg, even though that was 2x what we paid.

More and more, I'm not finding what I need at local brick and mortar stores and turn to Amazon for what I want/need.

....avoid Walmart too whenever possible.....Target or local supermarket or Costco (when I had membership)......as mentioned Amazon has the best inventory for stuff you can't find locally, so convenience wins again.......

All you need to know about Walmart is that they have $375 billion in annual sales and are headquartered in one of the poorest states in the country.

none of these is a deal breaker IMHO.

A large corporation: no problem if they are honest, pay decent wages.

Headquartered in a poor state: maybe they help the local economy with new jobs, pay taxes, etc. Do you think the local economy would be better without Walmart?

The real problem is their business practices: pay low wages, poor benefits, drive competition out of business, and squeeze suppliers to the last penny.

Basically, Amazon destroyed all of our options. All of the retailers that collected taxes while Amazon skated had all the stuff we wanted. May they rest in peace.

Service Merchandise
Circuit City
CompUSA
The Good Guys
Borders

Even Fry's is a ghost of what it was

Amazon is the best! Shop there regularly. So convenient and prices are relatively cheap. (tu)

Walmart destroyed them before Amazon got a hold. And remember, Walmart takes 3 times the retail dollar Amazon does.
