Just reading a bit about importing ID files. While not available now, Affinity says they are working on it but have no date available yet. People are saying they can import PDFs made from the ID file.

Just saw that it will remove the application frame and leave movable palettes by selecting Window> Separated Mode.

I was able to open PDFs made in InDesign (business card and 8 fold pocket guide with extensive tables), Quark catalog with extensive tables, Illustrator, ArchiCAD, Acrobat Distiller on Windows and a WordPDF with tables.
All in all it handles multi page PDFs very impressively. And I found the button to turn the UI light. I'm buying it as soon as it is available. I really like this company and will continue to support them by buying any new applications they develop.

There is no import feature so no it is not placing the PDF into a project file like we are used to in Adobe applications. I am using "open", which looks to be converting the PDF into an editable Affinity document.
