A crowd bothers me. I used to flow through a crowd without a care when I was younger. Now, I get a sickly feeling when I'm near a large number of people. :dunno:
That, and spiders!
That, and spiders!
Nosy Thursday poll.... Any epic Phobias you want to talk about ?

I used to have a dream about scrabbling across a slippery decomposed granite slope only to inexorably slide off the edge of a stunning cliff. Always woke me up.
Until I learned to remember in my dream that I had my parachute on and would peacefully drift back into deeper sleep as I glided down. Rarely have that dream anymore. I will NOT watch Free Solo. https://www.nationalgeographic.com/films/free-solo/

Spiders of any kind.
Snakes, anywhere any kind. People brandishing knives. Other than those, I'm as normal as can be.

.. my turn.. I learned to be kind of fearless as a child.
Heights ? You could find me at the top of the tallest tree in the forest, laughing like a loon. Or scrambling up the gnarliest cliff. Bugs ? Mom was full on organic. No sprays in OUR house. Spider bro was my friend and kept the cockroaches off my body at night. He did annoy me by waking me up walking across my eyeball, but I just closed my eye until he moved long. Snakes ? Hell. I had a friendly baby rattlesnake when I was about 3. He lived in the back yard and I would bring him bugs to eat until Dad said he 'moved'. Closed spaces ? I would go into caves and abandoned mines with Dad on his geological adventures. Turn off the lights ? Awesome, it sharpens your other senses. Flying ? Woo hoo ! Wasn't allowed to go for my sailplane license because money, but I cadged a few rides. Deep water ? Waves ? Loved 'em. Swam more underwater than I did above the water once I got goggles. As an asthmatic in the before Albuterol era, I have HUGE lung capacity. About the only thing that actually gets my pulse racing these days is walking on ice. I have no desire to go through that terrible accident again. I don't remember falling, but I sure as hell remember the ambulance ride, the intubation, defibrillation, seizures, and everything going black.

Got it!
I used to get extremely nauseous and sometimes pass out at even the thought of hypodermic needles and it was a major ordeal to get a shot or blood test. However, a few years ago I had a DVT and pulmonary embolism (blood clot in a leg vein that had a significant chance of killing me by clogging my pulmonary artery) and was suddenly thrown into a routine of daily blood tests combined with daily painful shots in my stomach which continued for weeks (the blood tests continued for many months though at reduced frequency). That little experience completely erased my phobia of needles. These days I don't even flinch when getting a jab.

Initiating phone calls. Major reluctance, no matter how benign. I'm okay once they start.
