Article: "New iPad mini is this close to replacing your iPhone"
#11
jdc,

And my answer is the same. If they really want use an iPad Mini as a replacement for their phone, but haven't done so already, likely there is a good reason for it. The release of the new model isn't going to change the situation.

If Apple put their phone app on the iPad Mini (and if carriers supported it for voice), I could totally see people using it for a phone. It's small enough to fit in the back pocket of men's pants (I've done that), and since women's clothes don't have "real" pockets, they're forced to carry their phone in a purse anyway, so an iPad Mini would fit just fine there too.

But I imagine there aren't many people that are going to jump through hoops to make an iPad Mini sort of "work" as a phone.

Not for me.

Not a chance.

No way.

Even the 12 mini is a little bigger than I like, as it lives in my left front pants pocket.

There are jackets and pants with pockets that will hold an iPad mini, but that's not how I'd roll.

To be clear, a new iPm is definitely on and near the tippy top of the Acquisitions list.

It just won't ever replace a phone for me.

Im not sure why you have to keep beating this dead horse. Its your way or no way?

Can not the reason be cause they never thought about it... until now?

If only everyone knew everything and how everyone's day-to-day workflow... works.

jdc,

In my opinion, no. Or, at least, highly improbable. The idea of an iPad Mini as a replacement for as phone isn't new. Far from. People started thinking about it the day Apple released the first iPad Mini with a cellular option.

One other fly in the ointment is carrying a mini around. A Max still fits in my pockets, a mini I’m assuming not.

Now if I finally got the gumption to adopt coveralls as my daily apparel, that might be different.

Or a purse, since 80% of my clients happen to be women on the go, and treat purses like a briefcase. =)

My son would consider this for sure as he is GV first.

We just discussed.

This exact product in a foldable format would be perfect. Only it will cost way more than $600 when it comes out from Apple!

I've got some BDUs that will hold an iPm, but they're not casual wear.

So maybe some cargo pants.

But still, it's not something I'd plan to carry on my person.

Blankity,

There is no way an iPad Mini is going to fit in a shirt pocket, the inside pocket of a jacket or the front or back pocket of a pair of jeans. If it does, then those pockets are larger than the typical size. And, if you put it in the front or back pocket of jeans, it'd feel cumbersome.

I keep my iPhone in the front pocket of my jeans. Wrangler Authentic jeans from Amazon.com. Fits nicely. Not too big. Not cumbersome. Even with a heavy-duty case. Tried it with an original Kindle Fire and my iPad Mini. The kindle fit but was very cumbersome. It was a noticeable struggle with the iPad Mini - barely managed. And, it was _very_ cumbersome.

The whole idea of trying to get an iPad Mini into a pocket just seems silly. Stick with a phone and be done with it. Even a larger phone.
