Contacts or glasses?
#11
Post your Rx then we'll have some actual meaningful dialog.

Astigmatism can be a huge problem with contacts.

Toric contacts are supposed to correct this, and regardless of the Doctor's insistence, they never worked like they should have.

There are supposedly multi-vision contacts, but they were after my time.

Single vision, no astigmatism, and you don't mind the insertion, removal, cleaning, replacing rituals, then give them a try.

The user's eyes determine the available options, and then the user considers the options.

For me, when they worked, it was pretty good.

That wasn't very often.

A few years after I gave up on them, LASIK was a thing and I was all in, and that was with the old style corneal flap,

Had that or wave front LASIK been available decades ago, I would have never bothered with contacts.

Depending on your Rx and finances, I would certainly consider it before contacts.

LASIK has its downsides as well, but it was aces for me, kid.

Not having to wear glasses to get to around the house, and never touching a contact again was worth the money.

I think the investment of trying contacts may be cheap enough these days that should you go back to glasses, you wouldn't hate the money you spent.

And should you like or be ok with contacts, it's nice to not have to swap out clear glasses for sunglasses.

Didn't Carly write a song about you.....?

or are you still young enough, w/ otherwise sturdy enough eyeballs to pull 'em off?
Also, the laser option is a viable consideration if your 'balls are strong enough.

Good luck, whatever you try/decide/go with.

With your bike riding, contacts will present difficulties drying out. IMHO…

I've worn glasses for around six decades, but never wanted to even try contacts

I've worn gas permeable contacts for about 40 years. They can correct for astigmatism.

They give me the absolute best vision, far better than glasses or soft contacts.

I still wear them even tho I need reading glasses for computer work / reading now.

I do daily contacts now. Easy to put in and take out, no cleaning, if something happens I can just put in another pair. Wish I would have done Lasik when I was in my 30s.

I started with contacts in my teens. Tried glasses after a couple years and never looked back. Way easier to just put them on or take them off. Too much maintenance and fussiness with contacts. Maybe I’m just lazy.

Had contacts for about 6 months when I was 19. Absolutely HATED them. Never saw as well as glasses, and they kept getting goop on them, making it nearly impossible to see. Mentioned it to the eye doctor who said I must not be cleaning them correctly. They did some kind of “deep clean” on them. The next day I was driving somewhere and had to pull over because both eyes got all gooped up. Took them out when I got home and never wore them again.

been wearing contacts since my 20s, I'm somewhat older now.
I'm blind as a fkn brick, -8.5 diopter. I wear toric for double astigmatism.

My script is monovision, a misnomer if there ever was one.
One eye is corrected for distance, the other for reading.

Like anything else in health, everyone is different.
You should check them out with an astig knowledgeable doc.
Not all are.
You know the saying, what do you call the Doctor what graduated at the bottom of the class? Doctor.

My 1st optom said not for me. So I changed optoms.

The monovisions came to me a decade or so back.
I stepped into them without an issue and drove home.

I added on tops a few years ago coz the console screens I deal with are just a teense out of reading range and sometimes the color combos make it difficult. They also help a lot with night driving to reduce the glare and photophobia of aging eyebones.

Modern contacts are insanely thin and comfy for many.
I have dailys that are good for 30 days or so.
2 bills gets me 6 months.
I have no issue cycling, diving or skiing in them.
I've never popped or floated one.
When I hit 16 hrs, eyes are sometimes done for the day.

I have friends with readers around their neck like blue haired liberrians. Ridiculous, especially when they haven't tried and their scripts are half mine.

In my experience and group of equally old fkrs, Lasik is like spine surgery. When there is no other choice. It may work, but you may go back a 2nd time and get no better.

In my 20s there were other benefits too. Had to do with bars and clubs in the winter and women.
My I wish I was 20, even 40 wasn't bad.

I wore contacts every day for about 30 years, then my vision was corrected during cataract surgery (early onset runs in my family). I use readers for close work now, and I do not miss sticking a finger in my eyes twice a day.
