Reddit's CEO is trying to spin the story, saying that unique visits are back up, regardless of the blacked out subs. This seems to be propping up IPO plans.

And 3rd parties have verified that. It turns out that those subs that protested by swapping out all their content for funny pictures of John Oliver are actually getting more visits than ever.

So, one might wonder why the company is in a panic and forcibly replacing mods.

And the answer is that while they're getting lots of unique visits, nobody is sticking around. People duck in to see what the place looks like and then leave. Without the engagement there are fewer ads being displayed and they're losing ad-revenue.

This is why Reddit's management is panicking and about to salt the earth in their own garden. (So to speak.)

I had a half-dozen reddit communities I would visit. They are all still dead/on pause.
