68,
Definitely check out the specs of the dual bay enclosures before you buy one. If I remember correctly, some of them use a single bridge board for both bays while others have a separate bridge for each bay. The difference seems to impact transfer speeds. Nto sure, though. Hopefully others will give more details. Might even be worth starting a new thread about it.

Right now the FW800 enclosures are a bit pricey, but I decided that my time and data security were worth it and bought an OWC Mercury case about a year ago. After adding a nice fast seagate 500Gb drive, the whole setup came in just under $200.
I have found it well worth every penny and it is the perfect companion for my iMac. The 500GB external is great for backing up the 250GB internal and archiving finished projects. It is a great advantage to have an external protected drive that can restore the main drive at any time.
Having 1TB on one internal drive actually sounds like a nightmare just waiting to happen. Drives fail and the more you lose the harder it is to recover.

The 20" iMac (the one 68shelbymustang was wanting to purchase) doesn't do FW800, FW400 & USB2 only.

***EDIT***
According to the current specs, all the iMacs have FW800!!
Mea Culpa!!

WOW!!
They buffed up a couple of cool things on the new iMacs.
Not only FW800, but they also put VESA mount capability across the line.
SWEEEEEEEEEETT!!

***EDIT***
