If you have some time, keep your eye open for refurbs. I got the 1 1/2 qt Cuisinart "reconditioned" from Amazon a couple years ago and it was about $35.00 IIRC.
That said, an extra bowl would be nice.

Thanks everyone. I think I'm going to get the Williams Sonoma 1.5 qt set with the extra "free" bowl". It still works out to $10 less than getting an extra bowl on Amazon.com even with free shipping (and both charge NY taxes).
Another ice cream question: I want to fake make my own ice cream this afternoon for a bbq this evening. I'm going to take good vanilla ice, mint chocolate cookie pieces & crumbs, peppermint extract and some Andes candies and mix them all together. I was planning to do it by hand at first but I may use my Kitchen Aid mixer just for some help. I put one of the bowls in the freezer right now to freeze. What do you guys think of this? Will it work:
1. mix all ingredients together in the cold Kitchen Aid bowl
2. stick in the freezer covered
3. go to Bed Bath and Beyond to get these metal containers to transport the ice cream:
http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/Product....1555401943&SKU=13358559&
4. return home, pack the ice cream in the containers and shove them back in the freezer for another two hours
5. transport the ice cream in bags full of ice to the (indoor) bbq and put them in the host's freezer when I arrive.
Can you tell I'm overly ambitious when it comes to food? Am I out of my league with this one or is it feasible?
Thanks for any more possible insight!

You have that big KitchenAid mixer, so why don't you start by using that? I'd given my daughter in law one of the mixers for Christmas several years ago, and then, the next year, I gave her the ice cream attachment. It works great. You can probably save money by getting one of those for now. If you decide you're really into this ice cream making thing, you'll have a better feel for what you want in a standalone ice cream maker.
I can't comment on your proposal for ice cream today, because I've only made ice cream in one of the old fashioned crank kind. But, if you're going to Bed, Bath, and Beyond anyway, check out the KitchenAid attachments while you're there.

Thanks for re-doing the math for me Newt. Amazon sounds like a better option now especially because I was going to buy some more cookie sheets anyway.
Hi AlphaDog, the Kitchen Aid attachment ends up costing almost twice as much as getting a stand alone ice cream maker. If I add another bowl to the Cuisinart order, the Kitchen Aid attachment with one bowl will finally equal out. I was discussing it last night with my boyfriend and he thought it was weird it cost so much more. He also wanted me to get the attachment but the figures don't quite work out. But yes, I'm definitely going to look at models while I'm at BBB today.

Amazon charges tax in NY starting June 1st.
If you buy it today, you should be OK.
