Cheap but good red wine

While getting feedback from friends is important, one thing I've discovered is that not all cities have the same access to wines. Sometimes there's just no one distributing the wine you're seeking.

With that in mind, I suggest finding a great, knowledgeable wine shop/merchant and getting to know them. Tell them what you're looking for and let them suggest. Sometimes it will be spot on, other times it will be a miss. Over time though, you'll develop a relationship and they'll get to know your tastes and guide you accordingly.

Meanwhile, how about a great wine at a pricey price? Comte LaFon. Excellent.

There is a poster here with a blog about wine. I should've bookmarked the site, because I can't for the life of me recall who that was. I love me some red wine, especially Merlots and Malbecs. I've had good luck with almost everything made in Chile, and some recommendations from others, but the best way to find a wine that you like is to drink them all. Smile

My personal favorite is Porteus Merlot.

$2-$3 Buck Chuck is usually pretty good for the money.

Why drink? Why bother eating? It can makes one fat! Moderation is the key here. Having born with that predisposition is an advantage for me because moderation becomes second nature.

We drink a wine called Bicyclette, I think. I mean we drink it for sure, but I'm not sure that's how it's spelled ;-). We get it at walmart (yes, we do) for about 10.00, I think. We've tried a million, and kind of settled on this one. If we were richer, we'd drink nothing but spanish reds. I've liked every one I've had. kj.

I enjoy Barefoot Merlot, it's a pretty OK under $10 wine.

I just tried Gato Negra, a merlot from Chile that was pretty smooth. Not great, but OK for a daily wine. Cheap too.

A little bit of red wine every now and then is good for the soul. Other times, green tea suffices. Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
