The Widescreen takeover. Are regular monitors a thing of the past?
#11
Yeah, that's exactly why I waited to see a deal on a pair of 1600x1200 Planars. You NEVER see a deal these days on anything but a widescreen. With my setup I get 3200x1200 real estate to play with. I don't have the room for 23" widescreens, and I need the height.

Not EVERYBODY buys a computer to watch movies. It's annoying.

Is *that* the actual reason for the switch to widescreen? Interesting. I've yet to watch a movie on any of my Macs.

My setup is a 1900x1200 (Acer 24" ) next to a 1600x1200 (Dell). The Acer is a Widescreen, the Dell is not. Sorry, no picture.

I'm not fond of the Acer... not because it's widescreen, but because it sucks as a monitor. I got the "non TN" one that is supposed to have better viewing angles than a TN screen. I can't imagine there being a worse option. If I'm only 5 or 10 degrees above or below center, the color fades badly. I'm wishing I'd spent more on a better monitor.

you're old!

And while I'm at it, what the hell happened to vinyl records and 8 track?
LOL!

Just me but I prefer one big monitor over two smaller ones. And I'm really not a fan of dual monitors that are symmetrical with the gap running straight down the middle. That middle part is the focal point of my attention so it's exactly where I do NOT want a gap.

If you don't want to move up to a 30" monitor, you might consider duals with a 24" widescreen as primary and a 19" 4:3 (technically it's 5:4) since they're approximately the same pixel density as well as vertical size and resolution. That would be similar to Jim's setup except the secondary would be wider than Jim's (which I believe is a rotated 17" WS).

It's what I'm thinking as well. Either that or try out two 24s.
