how do the G4s handle "TV" duties, compared to the dual core Intels?
the G4 has only 1 RAM slot, and is therefore limited to 1 GB of memory.
i can get one for $200, but i don't want it.

The G4 minis will do fine with standard definition video for the most part. I was using the mini mentioned above connected to a 720P HDTV. It would play most of the videos I recorded or downloaded from the web without a problem, up to around 640x480 with reasonable compression. It did have problems with a 640x352 h.264 video recently though.
I had just put this setup in place a few weeks ago, sort of experimenting with it. Although the mini could handle most tasks, I really wanted an easier interface. Needing a keyboard/mouse to control things just wasn't that practical, so I ended up using the mini more for an alarm clock than a video device. I think a 1.42 mini would be more suitable, but if you're really going after HD then you definitely want a Core Duo processor.

Check for refurbs *earlier* than 0600 PDT, or you may miss out.
If you do so, it will be less than two months before you see some. But they tend to go fairly fast, so don't lag.
Maybe MWSF will have new minis. I'll be looking to upgrade.

I know there are a bunch on ebay, but seem to be pricier than buying new from Apple. I was hoping to be around $500 shipped. I am just not having any luck with that I guess. Maybe I'm dreaming...
