Navy Seals kill Somali pirates, liberate ships.

I have no doubt these are inside jobs. As for the US Navy getting into action, I say not a chance. I suggest they ask for the UN Navy help first and that is after asking for a unanimous resolution from the security council lest we be accused of going it alone.

yes, Ventura was a SEAL. almost all Spec-Ops operators are pretty tight lipped, even when they get out, (fear of retribution actually) so there is a good chance that some of us may have run across one or two and never known it. Those very few that make it publicly known really stand out.

I currently know one who was in Somalia for the "Blackhawk Down" incident. He can't even talk about it. It still haunts some of them to this day. One of the Delta Force officers became a chaplain because of it.

Wasn't Jesse "The Body" Ventura a Navy SEAL before his WWF and gubinatorial days?
Yeppers!!:
"From September 11 1969 to September 10, 1975 he served in the United States Navy as a Navy UDT and was on active duty January 5, 1970 through December 10, 1973 during the Vietnam era"

Of course it's wrong, and illegal, but I have a hard time getting too outraged. The only article I read seemed to say the pirates weren't hurting anyone, and were actually treating the hostages really well (catered food, etc.). The pirates evidently pay their bills, so whole cities are thriving because of them. And the pirates/bandits foil every legitimate attempt to bring aid into the country. The only real answer is to restore order in somalia, and that isn't going to happen. So letting the regular folk exist off the crumbs of the pirates might be as good as it gets, without more of a commitment. kj.

Here's an article that seems to differ from your what you had read.

"Freed sailors: Pirates are animals"

I guess it doesn't make sense to think there is any kind of "standard" treatment. But if you read the article you quoted, it says none of the crew members were harmed. In fact, the worse thing it says they had to endure was showering two at a time. There's no mention at all of physical beatings or anything. I find this surprising. They have good reason not to kill anyone, but you'd think beatings would be fine. kj.

You know who else wanted to send troops to Somalia?

At first blink kj's posts almost always make me think I'm the one who has lost his tether, he's like a rubber punching bag that takes everything and just bounces back. Detachment is useful but not the end all.

sure. And the fact that drug lords pay workers to harvest and process the crops makes it OK as well?
