Clyburn: GOP's Opposition to Stimulus is Racist

Is it racism when a black man says it?

Is this a serious question?
Of course it is, Black.

Look, RgrF called me a racist based on something Bob Parks said. It's the same old hypocrisy. Park's statement is true. There is nothing in the pork package for Katrina recovery and Clyburn should be railing at the Dems that didn't include it in the stimulus bill. What makes it any less true if a white person says it or a black person?

I think you misunderstand my position. I believe racism is racism, regardless of the attributes of the person expressing it or practicing it.
My objection here is to your use of racist statements made by a black man to validate the expression of your own racist views.
"Look, a black man said it, it's not racist, it's the truth! I told you all!"

I took Rgr's statement to be referencing a broader picture of your views that has come across since you've been contributing to this side of the forum, rather than a reference to only this particular post/thread.
Like it or not, swampy, people who tune in here daily don't forget the things you've written the moment their browser window is closed, and are going to be prone to interpret new statements in the context of the views you've consistently expressed in the past.

Clyburn is the racist here. Not me, not Bob Parks.

Yeah... I don't like blacks that kill each other or become welfare queens. I don't like browns that run in gangs and kidnap people and come into our country illegally. I don't like Russians who hack computer systems and steal credit cards and ID information. I don't like radical Islamists who would rather behead you or stone a woman to death than live in peace. I don't like Italian mafioso bosses. I don't like Whites that think they are above the law or better than someone else. Yes, these are stereotypes, but you could apply any of these actions to any of the ethnic descriptions and I still wouldn't like them.

If that's racist, then so be it. I'm guilty. At least I don't pretend to love everybody.

swampy, you remind me of my father who had several close black friends. It is hard not to when you are career Army. But he used the N-word all the time and made racial comments in front of us kids because he didn't know better. He was raised that way. Maybe you just don't know better.

You used the term Chocolate City to rile people up here. You knew what you were doing. You could have said Washington DC but you wouldn't have gotten the same reaction. It is so sad that you need that kind of attention.

The "Chocolate City" comment came from Bob Parks at Black & Right, not me. I forgot to quote it until later. There's a link up thread to that comment.

I haven't used the N-word in 40 years. And, because my black friends prefer, I don't use "Negro" either.

Again, you assume too much.

Gee. I've accused swampy of being a racist or bigot 3 or 4 times. There seems to be a pattern here.

Easy enough to sit behind your computer screen and call someone a racist. Doubt that you would have the balls to do it to my face, but I couldn't care less.

Shrug.

Calling others racist is a way to inoculate oneself. For all I know all the holier than thou folks here have nothing but white buddies. They come here to calm their conscious by banging a few hollow words on the keyboard. Watch Guess Who is Coming to Dinner and you are likely to see yourself in Spencer Tracy.
