Know that you are doing the right thing. Take comfort in knowing that dogs have no sense of the future - they live in the now - and if now is not fun, making it stop is the right thing.

update- my wife was holding her while we were waiting for the vet to call, and she quietly died in my wife's arms. So she was completely at peace when she died, in the loving arms of her human Mommy. Somehow that makes it a bit easier....

I now what you're feeling. i had to put my doggie down a long time ago for similar reasons.
Think about the love you gave her and let that console you.

What a wonderful conclusion to what must have been a great companionship. Our little friends do leave a hole in our hearts when they leave us. May the good memories ease the pain of the loss.
