In addition to Netflix streaming, TivoHD also does blockbuster and Amazon on demand. When I did amazon on demand, it wasn't even DVD quality but maybe a lot has changed in 5 years.

After you get your HD tv setup, you should check to see how many channels you pick up before you cancel satellite/cable.

I get great OTA reception, so I could survive with OTA for sports and news, Netflix and Redbox.

Outdoor antenna - UHF only, or do you need to pick up VHF as well?

The TivoHD's primary features is it's ability to record two shows at once and playback a previously recorded show at the same time.

You setup Season Passes ie. shows you want to record on a regular basis. The Tivo downloads automatically downloads a TV schedule database every 24 hours and will automatically adjust so it will never miss a show if it moves or is rescheduled.
