Is there a single state in the union able to forge its own way?

New Hampshire is an example of a state with no sales or personal income tax. But money has to come from somewhere and New Hampshire has one of the highest property taxes in the nation.

So you do know how states make their own money.
Look up. I said taxes. So if a state does not take federal money, where would it get the revenue to run the government and provide services? Would it have to raise taxes to replace the federal contributions?

I don't need to "look up" to know your first post was disingenuous.

"So if a state does not take federal money, where would it get the revenue to run the government and provide services?"

Really?

Property taxes alone cannot make up for both. Besides, property taxes are assessed by the township. How does it find its way to the state budget?

You're right. I said it wrong. Guess I'm tired and not thinking right.

We all pay federal taxes. Why shouldn't we expect federal spending in our "state?" In a govt. of.. by.. and for.. the people.

States make money in a variety of ways, not only in the personal income tax most (but not all) charge us - which, by the way is legal (unlike the Federal Income Tax).

States also generate revenue through administrative fees for licenses, paperwork, etc. Regulatory taxes, road use fees, gas taxes, hotel taxes and airport use taxes are also ways that states generate revenue. Actually, if we pay attention to the world around us, the state is generating money in a myriad of ways that are not immediately apparent to most people.

Also, it is in the better interests of the Union to keep states on the Federal teat. More "welfare" for states means they're less likely to step out of line and try something crazy, like secession (which simply cannot be allowed under penalty of Martial Law).

The sad thing is that we, as Americans, should fear our own government more than those terrorists.

States are required to balance their budgets.
The Federal Gvt is not.

California has proven that it can not control spending but it is overall fairly self sufficient. It is one of the states that pays the Fed more than it gets back. I think it might produce enough food to pay for all the fossil fuel consumed, that is not pumped locally.

If all the poor people didn't have to leave California , neighboring states would need less of California tax dollars. :-)

Yeah, the main reason for personal bankruptcy is medical bills. The Republicans have to keep crushing people's dreams by being the party of NO.
