Murtha (see below) death was surgeon slip-up

VA has the best health care in the nation, outside of highly expensive clinics. Better than Mayo.

Murtha was a Representative.

You know, when I saw the headline yesterday about Murtha's death the conspiracy theorist in me wondered whether foul play might be involved. After all, this is not type of thing one would expect to befall a Senator; those guys make sure they get the very best of everything, including medical care.

I immediately dismissed those thoughts, but now I'm not so sure...

CNN made the same claims yesterday.

"slip-up"......... or maybe a well known complication of this surgery.... I guess you are a general surgeon and can tell us the complication rate during this procedure in a 77 year old man.

I never applied for a job as Thesaurus. Unintended consequence?
Known risk. etc. etc. Everything can result in death, per our litigious society's lawyer-ese protectionism.

Just take the article for what it's worth. I am not the source of the information. But, you already know that.

My mistake. Same logic applies (though Reps don't have as much juice as Senators).

A blog on CNN made that claim. Perhaps I haven't looked hard enough but a google news search didn't bring up any actual news sources that state that it was a surgical screw up. Everything I've read simply says there were surgical complications and/or that the large intestine was damaged. That's not to say that it wasn't a screw up, but that's nothing but rumor and jumping to conclusions as far as I can tell.

dying from infection in a hospital is a dirty, dirty secret they'd rather people not talk about.

It is strange how Democratic leaders always seem to die under circumstances that evoke conspiracy theories. When was the last time you heard of a Republican politician of any sort who, while in office died unexpectedly.

Other names that come to mind: Wellstone, the Kennedy brothers (not Teddy), MLK, Harvey Milk...

Surely some here can come up with counterexamples and other more recent examples that I am forgetting.
