Follow Up: Why is the Apple Time Capsule so slow?

>>My curiosity is, why doesn't any of your training or certs address this issue?

Few companies bother to educate others in the shortcomings of their own products.

It looks like consumer-grade NAS is going to be slow regardless, and the Time Capsule may be the slowest of the bunch.

That said, I saw a Buffalo LinkStation Duo at MWSF that looked really nice, starting at about $260, MSRP. Compact, much more so that the previous version.

Interestingly, it has a one-year warranty (drives included, various manufacturers) and the LaCie NAS lineup has a three-year warranty (drives included, various manufacturers). At this point, I think I'd go with Buffalo.

Here's a question I have. Since Time Machine has no preference for what kind of destination disk it backs up to---either in the Apple brand "Time Capsule" storage medium, or in any one of a number of attached USB drive options--what's the advantage of using a Time Capsule, instead of one's own choice of network-attached or Mac-attached external hard drives?

In short, I'm curious, why buy a Time Capsule, when an AE Base station with Air Disk, or just an attached external HD on a mac on the network, are equally suited for Time Machine backups? I would think the Capsule would be appealing only to those who are averse to backups and want an elegantly packaged solution, one that provides the router and WiFi services as well.

I suppose if you are looking to buy a router and backup storage device in one purchase, The Capsule offers that.

Next question would be, how do speeds compare between

Time Capsule transfer rates via ethernet
Time Capsule transfer rates via WiFi
Network-attached (AirDisk) USB drive transfer rates via ethernet
Network-attached (AirDisk) USB drive transfer rates via WiFi
Network-attached NAS drive transfer rates via ethernet
Network-attached NAS drive transfer rates via WiFi
Network-attached USB drive transfer rates via WiFi
Locally-attached USB drive transfer rates
