What's wrong with some people?
#21
I'm with Mike S. on this one...

Also if I may add: there was a trend over at the "other place" to answer a question with either an interrogative, or an assault on the question or on the OP him- or herself, rather than answering it.

That is, a person asks, "How do I do X?" and instead of actually answering the question, someone responds with, "Why would you want to do X? What's wrong with you? Are you an idiot?", etc.

I'm beginning to see that happen here too, and I would encourage people to resist the temptation to do this... it doesn't accomplish anything, other than to make for a pretty unfriendly environment, where people are afraid to ask questions for fear of being ridiculed.

PeterB," Why would you want to say that? What's wrong with you? Are you an idiot?"

sorry, I couldn't resist.

But I totally agree. There have been times I didn't respond because it wasn't worth getting into the middle of some of these exchanges.

Dennis R, that should become our new joke mutual recognition signature catchphrase: "Why would you want to say that? What's wrong with you? Are you an idiot?" ;-)

And what you mentioned-- not responding in a thread, because it's not worth getting embroiled into some of the exchanges-- yes, that also factors into it sometimes: at some level, you have to ask yourself, am I willing to have my head taken off by someone who doesn't agree with me?

This, from a guy who wears women's underwear as outer-wear, in public!

Please allow me to assure you and all the readers of this forum that what you see here is almost IDENTICAL to what you get in real life -- but in order to get an accurate picture, it would be a good idea to go back and read, say, three to six months worth of posts in toto.

My real-life personality is, to put it in kind of corny terms, a Cancer/Leo mix -- generous, friendly and social, but also egotistic and sometimes arrogant/quick-tempered. In a given year with me, you'll get 90% warm, funny, passionate and gregarious and 10% surly, sarcastic and short.

My worldview, both here and in "real life," is that everyone has an off day now and then, but repeated foolishness/stupidity is not to be tolerated. Life's just to short for that nonsense.

I try to be (a) helpful to those who really seem to need help, and (b) ignore the whiners/morans (though sometimes I will lambast someone who seemed to be [a] and turn out to be ). Contrary to the opinion of those who don't regularly read my posts, I'm MUCH more nice than nasty.

Cheers.

And when you're nasty and WRONG about something, boy, does it feel good to rub your nose in it :-)

I don't see any such pattern. If anything, this forum has become progressively friendlier. Look at the stickies, for example.

If one is so short of patience, or in fact a know-it -all, why don't they just sit back and watch. They might be suprised at what they might learn in the process.

You have done a wonderful service for the know-it -alls in your post. You made them feel superior to someone for just a nano second. You have given them a release when they finally found someone to pounce on. They were most likely waiting a long time

I think someone who attacks another for the "quality" of their questions is a bully (and as we know , most bullies are insecure).

To humiliate people does not add any value to anything.
