Costco - should I buy tires there?
#21
I bought tires at Costco. They were cheaper...

However, every time I take my truck in for a rotation / balance, the wait time is horrendous. Usually, 3 hours.

The initial cost savings was great. But, I think I'll buy tires from somewhere else next time. I just don't like waiting around that long.

wow! you must have a very busy Costco or a Costco that is seriously understaffed. i've never had a rotation take longer than the time i spend shopping. and yes, they really do rotate them - i've been known to mark the tires just to be sure...

Before I moved to the Philippines I used Costco for all my vehicles. I routinely purchased Michelin Tires.
They always lasted longer than 50,000 miles with regular rotation.

Also I found by going to the local Costco store early before opening..being polite and grateful to the staff
I usually had my car back shortly after shopping and sometimes it was done when I had completed my shopping. All the vehicles that I took to Costco were Toyota 4Wheel drives.

Costco was always a great resource for me and I loved getting that 2% check once a year.

I always check Costco, but for my current car they only have the MIchelin PIlot sport PS2 and it was about $225 per tire. I went to another local tire dealer and got a comparable Continental tire for $170 per corner

WELL... I finally made my purchase at Sams Club. Only 47 cents more than costco per identical tire and it is local. I would have had to drive approximately 100 miles round-trip for a Costco purchase, along with adding a $50 membership fee. Thanks for all the advice. By the way, I love to get user comments at tirerack.com when researching for tires, but I don't find their prices that much better by the time one pays shipping along with the nuisance of finding and paying an installer.

Different places alternate which brand tires get the buy 3 get one free. Cosco was offering michelinslast week, but bridgestone ecopias were offered at other places.

So it depends what tire you want and if there is a promo. If there is not there will be a promo soon.

If you buy at Costco.com, they'll accept major credit cards (in store only Amex). Service in NY & NV was excellent. They were much better than my experience with Sam's Club. I bought Michellin Hydro Edge which have been excellent on wet roads and in snow.

I guess I'm still not going to find out what's wrong with Michelins, 2 threads and no answer.

Maybe the reason that you haven't gotten an answer is that there isn't anything wrong with them.

I ran them for many many years on my 1966 Corvette and now for ten years on our 2000 Camry. In my experience, they are excellent tires.

But, as I always say, "that's just my opinion, I could be wrong." Sad
I know that and you know that but for some reason JPK talks them down, without an explanation, in virtually every
tire thread that shows up. Of all the tires we've bought the Michelins have by far been the best riding, longest
lasting tires we've ever had.

With apologies to N-OS X-tasy! for using his phrase, "It is what it is…"
