I would buy the iPhone with the micro SD slot so I could add my own storage. Oh wait, they don't make one like that.

I reserved a 32 GB for the main reason that I'm selling my 32 GB iPhone 4 for almost the same amount, so my out of pocket expense will be minimal. I had about 2-3 GB of space left, but I just cleared out a bunch of apps that I rarely use and freed up another 6 GB of space. I have more apps that I can/will clear out also. The apps are still stored on my MacBook in case I need to move them back over.
When our other phone is due for the cheapest upgrade in February, I may get a 64 GB model. We'll see at that time.

Get the max. You'll probably make up half the difference on resale value and its there "when you need it"

My iPod Touch has 16.3 GB of audio, 8.3 GB of apps, 2 GB of photos, and only 1 GB of video. So there's not a lot of free space on my 32 gig.
My entire audio library is 22GB. There's no lossless stuff, or ridiculously high bit rate files, just 4121 items. So the 16.3 GB in my pocket is after picking and choosing. I have lots of video in my library, but if we're going on vacation I have to remove even more of the audio to make room for movies. We travel 3 or 4 times per year, and having several movies on hand makes air travel bearable, especially for my 8 year old. And there are apps, too, apps I haven't even installed on it yet. There are also apps I've removed from the iPod, because they take up a lot of room but don't get used (for example, the Oregon Trail is 1.2 GB, and it sucks). I've got 196 apps, all told, probably about 12 gigs worth. I'm okay with 32 gigs, but I do have to manage it. I can't sync a couple movies onto it without choosing music to remove. Come the holiday season, I'll have to make room for my Christmas music. It'd be nice not to have to manage my media, to always have all my music and all my apps and at least 3 or 4 movies. So if it were me, I'd pay the extra to get the 64 GB for sure.

I don't clear out my camera roll (much.)
I have photos and videos back to when I first got a 3GS in July of 2009. My first daughter was a little under 2. Now, I have two little ones and an iPhone 4 which shoots much higher res photos and takes HD videos. I like being able to look back and watch old videos of my kids and look at old photos through the last couple of years. It's a little portable timeline of our lives. I have 0 movies and maybe 100MB worth of songs on there. But I vote largest capacity every single time.

Hi everyone,
My IPhone 3GS is a 32 gig model. So far, it's served me very well and a 32 gig 4S would likely serve me well, too. However, due to the capacity, I've limited the amount of music and video I normally store on my iphone. If I hadn't, I would've blown through 32 gigs without even blinking an eye. So to me, it was a no brainer. Things to consider when choosing an IPhone: A. Music B. Video (from your video library) C. Apps D. Photos (existing on your phone already) E. Recorded videos (existing on your phone already) F. New photos (taken at a significantly higher resolution) G New recorded videos (taken at a significantly higher resolution) All of these things require storage. I wouldn't under any circumstances buy a 16 gig model unless it was for a child or someone who needs a nice smartphone but won't be storing much on it. Likely, you wouldn't be buying an IPhone for child but there are those who will do it. To me, the market for the 16 gig model is limited at best and exists primarily to allow Apple to say they offered a lower priced 4S model. A 32 gig model would do fine for the majority of those owning an IPhone in the past but factor in the upgrades like higher res photos and videos and it may not have quite enough capacity. To me, a 32 gig model is now what I consider the lowest capacity model for anyone who uses their IPhone for more than just the basics. It'll serve the majority well and will be the most popular capacity for the public at large. The 64 gig model is really the model of choice if you have the bucks for it. The extra storage allows for more flexibility when it comes to the items I listed earlier in the post and definitely requires less media management, too. That's why I'm ponying up the bucks for the high capacity model. I suspect you'll see more people buying the 64 gig model than the 16 gig model. ![]() Robert

32 gig should be fine for me, especially since my 64 gig iPad 2 is usually close by.

The big question for me is whether the new camera really works well to record HD video. If so, I think the 64GB model may be a better deal.

In 2 years 64GB may seem like a bare minimum baseline. I think for the relative minor increase over the lifetime of the phone, it makes sense to maximize your long term utility by going with the 64GB version.
At least that's what I did, assuming that at some point it will have a life as a glorified iPod touch after the 2 year contract is up. Each to their own, though! Cheers, - Jem |
