If the phone number(s) you put on the tag is listed, a simple reverse directory search will yield the listed address.

[quote davester]Ditto what $tevie said. It is an extreme stretch of the imagination to think that there is any burglary risk from having your dog's tag show your address.
Hmmmm..., I remember when "Identify Theft" was considered BS. When stores insisted folks put their SSN on checks before accepting them. I won't even use the "Last Four" of my SSN for any sort of ID with any services except for for those dealing with Social Security. BGnR

Sorry, no listing of Phone Numbers! Why would anyone do that? I have never understood that. BGnR

My dogs wear their license tag, their rabis vacc. tag and the tag with the 800 number of the microchip service.
There is no need for any tag which gives my address or phone number.

If your vet knows your dogs extremely well and doesn't mind being a contact, you could consider listing your vet as a second contact number.

I don't put our address on the pet's tags - just the phone number and pet's name. I think most of us women in this society have learned caution over the years - we're much more vulnerable than you men seem to think you are.
If someone finds one of our pets they can just call me and *I'll* go pick them up myself (with some male companionship). I don't want a stranger coming right up to my door (possibly unannouced and holding my pet "hostage"), when I don't know anything about them, or their end motives, for being a "good samaritan". Kathy

Our vet's number is on the rabies tag, so our pets could always be back-traced that way. Instant second contact.

[quote BigGuynRusty][quote Lux Interior]So, you can chip the dog and never register the chip and make it basically useless.
My vet won't implant a RFID chip till it's registered, really useless if you don't. That would make sense. My sister-in-law is a vet tech. She just came over one night and "installed" the chip. It was up to me to register it on the web. All I paid for was the registration fee.

I guess I am not paranoid enough. What can I say? I believe the odds that an evil doer is going to find my dog are not nearly as great as that one of my neighbors will.

There are dog thieves, too.
You don't need a dog to have a wacko walk up your driveway. All the 'too much information' arguments are arguments for no tag as well. |
