[quote SteveJobs]Is any of this bias racially motivated, either or both ways?
Almost all the asians I know drive asian-make cars.
Yes. Japanese are better than white people.
And there was also World War 2.

Well, now you know one that will be driving a Chevy truck. How is that for trend bucking?

[quote pRON aHOLIC]No one is B slapping Toyota because they are not laying off tens of thousands of employees and they are profitable even before this truck ships in mass. Toyota did not suffer billions in losses nor is a candidate for sale or takeover.
So, if Detroit was making a profit, their marketing woud not bother you?
As far as racism, I hope that was a joke. I respect Danny for all his photo advice he has given over the years, among other things, DMP.... Just got tired of his hangup on the It's got a HEMI thing. Once, twice, whatever. Every time a discussion about the domestics come up just got to be too much. Especially when everyone has ignored little sweetheart Toyota and Nissan which entered the maket 2(?) years ago.

Toyotas and Chevys trucks are made in this state, and soon Toyota and honda cars will be too, to go along with Subarus, as well various domestic PARTS.
I liked the Chevy truck I had. Not so much the Ford.
Really liked the Jeep.

I said raciAL not racIST.
I mean, do asian (and asian descent) folks here feel pride in their country an buy asian branded cars? And you know you mention Danny whom I assume is Pron, and I just see two names. I have no idea what anyone looks like here except for that pic that crops up about the one guy you guys hazed a lot....shake no...fusty...
anyway, not hate/motived AGAINST another, but more PRIDE TOWARDS one race/homeland.
I mean, if I were in europe or africa, and I could buy a Jeep, I would see that as a nod toward my american background and upbringing in a small way.

[quote Carnos Jax][quote Pat]Carnos,
California has tons of pickups also. We just don't have the gunracks. ;-)
Which market segment?
I know this'd be over simplifying it, but full size trucks w/an 8 cylinder engine or higher.
Well, your limiting yourself to basically just domestics then. Toyota is just now entering this market, and Nissan only entered last year, maybe 2 years ago. The Nissan is not up there with the other 4 options capacity wise and has had a rough roll out. Quite a few engine and brake problems, and crappy fuel mileage. So your only comparison would be between Chevy, Dodge and Ford.
Still what are we looking at here? There's a world of difference between a 150/1500 gasser vs a 250/2500-350/3500 diesel. Production year/engine matter too.
Just an example. 2003 Ford F250 can have any of the folllowing: 3 cab styles, 2 bed lengths, 2 drive options, 4 engine options, 3 transmission options.
The best truck would vary by year and options. Some have problems that only affect one model year, some have ongoing issues, and some just have quirks.

A nice word for that is ethnocentric. Still racist. And no, at least not here in this context. Like I said we have had and do own imports. Our only domestic vehicles have been my 2 Ford trucks. If I was in another line of work, or spent my weekends differently, or even if Toyota had had a full size truck back in the 90s I might not have ever owned a domestic.

That's not racist at all, it's ethnographics. It would seem, as a whole, that Asian Americans prefer Asian owned and Asian influenced designed automobiles. It would have been racist to say that Asian Americans prefer Ricers.

Same reasons Germans prefer BMW's and MB's. Swiss, Volvo. However, I'm of Norwegian descent (great-grandfather immigrated to MN) and I'm loyal to Subaru.

My father-in-law is swedish, and he drives a volvo and a saab, and feels some pride in that. I don't think it's a negative thing.
Btw, hasn't toyota been selling the Tundra with a V8 for quite a while? At any rate, What pRon is saying makes sense to me. The u.s. car makers had all their eggs in one basket, and have been slow to respond to more expensive gas. Many, many people here have had their F350s parked for years, in favor of smaller cars for their commute. I sold my last honda 3yrs. ago to a fireman who had to park his F350 due to gas prices. On the other hand, when the u.s. car companies make something worth buying in the compact segment, people don't buy it (ford focus svt comes to mind), so there is more to the problem, I think. kj.
