I find it sad that you guys think the concept of being able to have a 1:1 communication with one's representative is laughable.
I guess liberal no longer equals idealistic in 2008 Amerika.
But don't let my criticism of young Barry get you down-- the droves of conservatives flocking to support him will surely result in a landslide election in his favor.
I just don't think that's the litmus test of his electoral viability. Nor did you really qualify your concerns. For all we know he didn't respond to them wanting Coke instead of Pepsi.

Count me as one of those that maybe has far too low of expectations. I surely don't expect that my local congressperson is sitting by the phone answering phone calls all day long. I wouldn't want them to be, either. I know how difficult it is for me to actually get things done somedays when the phone never seems to stop ringing. Can't imagine someone trying to pull it off with hundreds of thousands given access directly and expecting to get through.
PeterB, I totally got the point you were making about Obama actually seeming to take information and process it in an analytical and thoughtful way. He is easily the brightest of any of the current candidates on either ticket as well as most that have run in the last couple of decades. I'd certainly welcome a President that was actually more intelligent than 90% of the populace. Sadly, many Americans have an inferiority complex about this whether they realize it or not.

BL, there couldn't "be" a more minor issue to dislike a politician.

BL, I think to assume that "those around him" will necessarily include you, unless you are a part of his cabinet or staff, is a bit much. Should an elected public official listen to some members of the public? Sure. But can he/she listen to ALL the members of the public? Not bloody likely, unless he/she happens not to have to sleep, otherwise lives a life of solitude, and exists in a special trans-dimension where a 24 hour day is actually composed of 289.976 hours.

OK, if I say something nice about Obama will you call off the pit bulls, and can I play with your guys' dolls again?
How 'bout this:
"He seems like a good guy."
Where did I say I dislike him?
I am specifically questioning the perceptions communicated by PeterB in regard to whether he would be likely to "listen to those around him", nothing more, nothing less.
You don't have to like him (I know you don't dislike him). It's your prerogative. I don't judge.
