The Widescreen takeover. Are regular monitors a thing of the past?

tuq, they're Dells-- I believe a 24" and a 17" 4:3 turned vertical. Note how close the bezels line up.

He's mentioned it a couple of times here, but I can't think of a single keyword regarding them.

My setup is a 1900x1200 (Acer 24" ) next to a 1600x1200 (Dell). The Acer is a Widescreen, the Dell is not. Sorry, no picture.

I'm not fond of the Acer... not because it's widescreen, but because it sucks as a monitor. I got the "non TN" one that is supposed to have better viewing angles than a TN screen. I can't imagine there being a worse option. If I'm only 5 or 10 degrees above or below center, the color fades badly. I'm wishing I'd spent more on a better monitor.

I know what you mean, I bought what is probably the same Acer about 6 months ago. I took it back 2 days later. What a POS.

I ended up buying a used ACD. Soooo glad I did.

Say what you will but the Apple displays are beautiful. I also have a (5 year old?) 17' Apple Studio Monitor that is still chugging along, looking good.

That's what I use.

A 30" and then a 24" rotated on the side for palettes:

I don't like widescreen. When doing the more pedestrian computer stuff, it seems there is always a big chunk of unused screen on the right. The reason they went widescreen was that they get a lot more 19" widescreen panels per sheet of panel than they do 4:3 19".

Widescreen is so much more awesomer:

The bad thing is that a PC is under the desk running it.

No Macs allowed at work.
