I second this one...

I've used a turbomouse since 1995.

For photoshop I prefer the Logitech 1000mx - can program 7 different functions so I don't have to remember those 3 & 4 key combinations. Have two, bought the second used when the first started going flakey. Found out how to take them apart, cleaned the first one of the internal dust & hairs that made it flakey and am glad for the backup as they have been discontinued.

For non-photoshop stuff, the Kensington trackball that others have praised comes in very handy.

so would you say the Logitech MX 1000 is worth $30 for a used one in good shape?

I think incognegro's mouse beats all but Seacrest's choice.

Personal favorite is the Kensington USB Pilot Mouse Optical. Unfortunately no longer made, the replacement has more buttons. The extra ones on the left side irritate my thumb, so not useful to me.

I have a Logitech MX900 (since discontinued) bt that works pretty well. I gave an extensive review on it here maybe a year or two ago; stf and you can find it, along with several comments on other mice IIRC.

MacAlly iOptinet. Stupid name, great mouse.

They may have been discontinued; I saw several on the MicroCenter dump table for $13 a couple of weeks back. Bought one for the wife and another for a spare.

GREAT thread.

The key in mouse selection is to not get fooled by seeing that certain mice "aren't supported for Mac OSX." That just means that the mouse's manufacturer doesn't make software for Macs. But third-party mouse software, like SteerMouse and others, do. If it's USB, it'll run on a Mac.

And actually, many manufacturer's software isn't as good as third party, so try out both types of software to get full advantage of multi-button mice.
