BL... I originally registered as a DEM years ago back when Dems controlled the state. There were few if any Republicans running in local elections so if anyone wanted to vote for the County Commissioners, local Sheriff or dog catcher, you just about had to be registered Dem and most elections were settled in the primaries.
It really was the cherry picking thing that made me decide to drop all party affiliation. State law in Florida is very clear. If there is to be a recount it will be of all counties, not a chosen few. There was also an issue with military absentee ballots that the Dems tried to have voided because they did not bear the USPS postmark, but an APO postmark instead. At the time there was nothing specific in FL law stipulating military ballots had to have a USPS cancellation. It just said postal cancellation and the Dems wanted to interpret that as USPS only.

Thanks for the backstory.
I take it you didn't heed Rush's call to register as a democrat in the primary to vote for Hillary this year?

"Al Gore and his hordes of lawyers descending on the state ..."
Define "hordes". And, how many lawyers "descended" on the state for the Republicans? (Have you ever analyzed how hyperbolic your writing is?)

He should have asked for a statewide recount. The 2000 election was Gore's to lose and he did just that. Keeping the still-popular Clinton at arm's length was a major strategic blunder. Whatever Clinton's personal shortcomings, they never rubbed off on Gore, who had the reputation of being a boy scout. 2004 was the same. It should have been a cakewalk for Kerry but he pulled a Dukakis and thought himself above responding to the Swift Boaters until the damage was done. Obama finally broke the Democrats penchant for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
