The Admins could move this thread to the For Sale and Free items forum.
Why?
I wanted to let a bigger audience in on this.
What prompted it was an E-Mail I received on Sunday asking if I had any laptops available at this time. It was from a person who I'd previously sent an item.
As I type this, there are 8 15" MacBook Pros, 1 13" Macbook Pro , 1 12" MacBook Air & 3 PC laptops sitting on the floor next to my desk, ready to go to new homes. Laptops are one of our biggest 'sellers'
I also have over a dozen 21.5" & 27" iMacs waiting to go out, along with (get this!) 46 Mac Pros. Those I was very rarely willing to ship (too expensive) though I did send a few to a church down South.
I could have demanded payment up front, but this project is done in our spare time, so we try to fulfill requests as quickly as possible (less paperwork) ... when most people are simply picking up their items, it doesn't include any money changing hands. The system of shipping immediately was for OUR convenience.
The other odd thing that occurred with the folks here was that, a few times, I was invited to send an extra item or two, if I felt I had too many.

Years ago, in the early 2000s I volunteered at a nonprofit computer recycler. It's "good business" for companies to write off old gear this way. I was one of two Mac guys and eventually became the only Mac guy there.
It was a great, condensed introduction to a few 80s and mostly 90s Macs and clones. One Saturday the place was shutting down without notice. I just happened to show up ... The boss was basically incoherent that day; it was a project he'd been involved with since his teens almost 10 years prior. When I'd asked him 2-3 times what was going to happen to all the gear he said he didn't know, only that everything had to be removed that weekend.
I drove home and came back in our minivan. I shoved all the "special" ones in, the NeXT Cubes, the G3's, the rare stuff, the better monitors etc. My basement turned into a Mac museum/workshop for several years, although most of it got recycled.

I'll have to keep an eye on the For Sale & Free Items more often. Dan I don't remember ever seeing you list anything there. But no, I don't plan on PMing you because of this thread here.

Glad to see others have cleared up your confusion about the free and For Sale thread. I think many of us click to that side to see if anything new and interesting has been listed when we 1st click on to the forum.
I have bought from several forum members here, including a few who posted above, and had no problems on my end or theirs (I hope).
That said, please consider listing some of those Macs Minis here. I could use a i7 Mini for a buddy who owns a struggling small business and has a old 1st Gen White iMac who screen has failed and has it hooked up to an old external monitor,
Geez - An i7 Mini is probably better than my i5 iMac that i am typing this on. Its internal Hard drive has failed so I have it booting off an external drive
Please add me to the "Interested List" for 1 or 2 if you decide to sell them here.

Some guy named Zoodberg or something was giving me a ration of sh it over this thread.
Another reason to not get involved with members here.
So, for all this who sent me PMs, you have him to thank for scuttling everything.
Back to being a lurker for me.

This is Zoidberg. I've been tasked with providing general administration for the For Sale & Free Items forum.
First, there's no need for hostility, either here or via Private Messaging. It was not my intent to give you any grief over your post. I first pointed out that if you had items you were either selling or giving away that you needed to post a thread on the For Sale & Free Items side of the forum, and that there was the potential for an Administrator to move, close, or delete the thread if the post took a turn towards commerce.
Your initial post created a misunderstanding that you were in possession of Macs that you were/might be offering to members of the forum. Whether or not there was a monetary component was not the issue.
You also noted that you did not realize it was a separate forum; "Oh, I thought the thread above with a sticky was a thread, surprised to hear that it's a forum". Again, we were just trying to steer you to the right spot.
Others chimed in and let you know what the FS&FI forum was and how to access it, as did I via a PM. I apologize if I created a misunderstanding there re/whether or not the items were actually for monetary sale, as I've gotten used to just saying "the for sale forum", regardless of intent.
Again, however, I was just offering a heads-up and a comment regarding the thread. (And at this point it looks like someone did decide to relocate this message to the FS&FI forum.)
I meant no offense & no grief was intended.

I can't find any threads where ~Dan has offered anything, for sale or free-for-shipping. I'm not really sure what to make of this whole episode.

I have to daughters just starting their professional careers, graphic design and nursing. School debt being what it is...
If you have a decent machine for either of them, I would be glad to send shipping dollars.

My daughter could use a laptop that will run macOS 10.11 (at a minimum) or possibly higher. 13" or 15", no preference. I can upgrade or install RAM and/or an SSD myself.
She's 19 and will use it for swim meet software for a team she coaches this summer.

PM sent and we love you for all the work you do at getting Macs off the Island of Unwanted Macintoshes and into the hands of people who need them. You are doing Steve's Work !
