[quote MGS_forgot_password]If Toyota was serious about the truck market, they wouldn't have a logo shaped like a mushroom.

There may be a wee bit of historical significnce (not to mention irony) to that "logo shaped like a mushroom"…

Toyotas have been the top Truck out there for 10 years running now... not American trucks...

[quote Pat][quote pRON aHOLIC]No one is B slapping Toyota because they are not laying off tens of thousands of employees and they are profitable even before this truck ships in mass. Toyota did not suffer billions in losses nor is a candidate for sale or takeover.
So, if Detroit was making a profit, their marketing woud not bother you?

As far as racism, I hope that was a joke. I respect Danny for all his photo advice he has given over the years, among other things, DMP.... Just got tired of his hangup on the It's got a HEMI thing. Once, twice, whatever. Every time a discussion about the domestics come up just got to be too much. Especially when everyone has ignored little sweetheart Toyota and Nissan which entered the maket 2(?) years ago.

The marketing doesn't pair up as much with what consumers want in the face of higher gas prices and oil uncertainty.

If they were profitable instead of cutting 10K+ jobs, no one would be talking about it. We didn't talk about this 5 years ago because people were buying big trucks and obscenely large SUV without fear.

Nissan is no model of profitability. The only reason they are still in business is they got bailed out.

IMO, Toyota is striking a balance in their marketing. No one is criticizing them at the moment because they are not in danger like the big 3 have put themselves in with all eggs in one basket.

Really? Based on what? Sales? Not even close. Recalls? No better than the domestics. Capacity? Until now, not even close. The T100 and previous Tundra? I guess if you like underpowered vehicles with no capacity, sure, they have held that title for quite some time.

I'd like to see a Toyota hitch up to my trailer. It weighs more empty than the Toyotas maximum tow rating, which it will never achieve without going over the GVWR.

Toyota's been making the Tundra since 2000.

Everyone I know that bought a Tundra was because they were fed up with Chevy and Ford.
Didn't want a "brawny" Dodge.
Only (complaint echoes repeatedly) complaint has been the yuppy look, the yuppy feel, the yuppy ride.
Toyota has addressed that.

Tacoma's got all the towing capability I need. (so far).
I'd get out and walk before I saddled myself with a Ranger or a S-10.
Everyone I know with a Colorado has had MAJOR engine and /or transmission troubles. Under warrantee, but still aPITA.

I've had 1 (one) recall with the Tacoma. The trailer light diode pack
Some have complained of front end shimmy. Mine was the crappy Goodyear tires.
(credit where credit is due, they did go 80,000 miles with rubber left, I was just fed up checking tire pressure all the time)
Had to be perfectly balanced and exact equal tire pressure side to side.

Honda's 'truck' is just as ugly as the Chevy they copied.

ask an older Chinese immigrant to the US what they think of Japanese cars. Say... one around 75 years old.

NOT as a full size they haven't. This is the first year.

I'd rather ask a young Japanese honey what she thinks about Chinese cars.

The term "full size truck" is as meaningless as the term "full sized car."
