He was very generous and sent me some mini-DVs for free along with other goodies. Then a few weeks later snapped at me for asking a question. For someone to give like that was a great thing. I don't know him very well and was taken back when he snapped but just chalked it up to someone on the forum that wasn't like me. I brushed it off and moved on. I hope things are fine with him.

Sure, he was knowledgeable, but he was more interested in letting people know that he had the answer - not in actually helping. Just little 3 word drive-by quips like, 'RESET THE SMS' to someone who barely knows how to use a mouse. Yeah, very helpful...

I am another recipient of at least one too many scathing attacks via PM from him. though am also personally aware of his kindness and generosity towards others, sending them hard to find items on his own dime... while he never sent me anything, he did provide helpful info on occasion, one time even belittling and berating me afterwards for not being able to find the info on my own, then admitting the link he provided was not public, or googleable, and that he was "just messing" w/ me, I guess for his own kicks and giggles... it was kinda frustrating, because after he acknowledged he was somehow related to the vendor, I was afraid to contact them... if he'd stay on his meds, and tone down the hostility and private and personal attacks, and maybe posted under a new persona, who knows???

Nobody "drove" Rusty away. He either left or got banned - in either case, a decision in which none of us here were given a say (except, perhaps, the mods).

First of all, he'd be the first to tell you that he's "Big Guy" and that Rusty is his dog. Yes, he was knowledgeable. Yes, he could be a real condescending pain in the ass. RAM managed to address many things very well in his post above. I will just add that it used to make me laugh how often he would correct someone's spelling or grammar, when in fact he was just as guilty of it in many of his posts. On more than one occasion I had typed up a reply to call him on it, then realized that nothing would be gained by doing so other than self-satisfaction.
