Mini-rant: use of the word "well" at the start of a sentence...

Well, not to get off the subject (?), but I hate it when someone starts answering a question (not really actually answering) with a "Look".

Well, I don't think that adding a "Well" makes a message any more palatable. It's just PC to add the "Well" at the beginning of that sentence.

What? Political correctness is the cause of "well" as an introduction to a thought? Perhaps a typo?

The purpose of language is to exchange ideas, not to impress others with your pedantic mastery of the rules you learned in school. I pay less attention to the form than the content. Some really great ideas may be found in sentences that begin with "well", and I have found other speakers who have complete mastery of the mechanics of language to be totally boring and bereft of any original ideas.

Thank you.

Mostly only at the end of the day, though.

Peter: did you ever call into a certain Boston radio station with a guesstimate of the number of "uhs" in a Ted Kennedy speech ?

My point was that adding "Well" to the beginning of the sentence has an element of PCness, yes...

What? Or better yet, how? What is politically correct about "well"? Has the whole world gone mad?
