ThermalTake BlacX 2.5"/3.5" SATA to USB/eSATA Hard Drive Dock Station for $19.99 (plus tax and shipping) after rebate

Hi everyone,

I've seen a few posts asking about USB Drive Docks recently. Since I'm in the market for two more of them, I searched around for deals and found the following at Micro Center:

ThermalTake BlacX 2.5"/3.5" SATA to USB/eSATA Hard Drive Dock Station for $19.99 (plus tax and shipping) after rebate. Normal price is $34.99.

I have one of these and it has performed flawlessly with both my Mac Pro, home theater mini and several Macbooks under Leopard and Snow Leopard. No drivers necessary. I'm pleased enough with its performance that I just ordered another one and recommended it to one of my employees for use with his home theater mini. The Drive Dock works with SATA drives up to 1 terabyte in capacity.

At $19.99 (plus tax and shipping), it's definitely a good deal.

Robert

P.S. Yes. Micro Center is off my %@#$%@#$%@ list. They did right by me several times over the few months.

FWIW, I have one of these and like Robert's, mine's worked fine.

I was surprised to see that it's got a three year warranty.

As always, YMMV.

Mhale,

I thought it had just a one year warranty. Three years is much better! Smile

FWIW, I'm buying the second ThermalTake to replace a NewerTech VoyagerQ drive Dock. While I love the idea of the quad interface of the Voyager, my first required replacement under warranty and the replacement was DOA and is in the process of being replaced. Definitely not happy about that. However, OWC/NEwerTech have been phenomenal with references to the issues and warranty replacements. I wish other companies offered the same level of support and service.

We purchased one of these docks for IT use and it rocks! We are going to use it mainly to back up the back up server.

Its a well built quality product, don't hesitate to get one if you have a need.

Cheers!

This style of dock is much better than using a plug-in adapter for SATA drives. Turns out that it's pretty easy to short out a SATA power connector if you jiggle it too many times...

Won't do the higher speed SATA transfer rate.

Anon,

True. But, it's $19.99 after rebate. That and it's fine for general purpose usage. You need more speed, i.e. video editing, then you'll want to use a device that is intended for that application.

Thank you for the kind words of praise regarding our support/service Robert! And dang it, don't know why you have been so "lucky" with the Voyager. Honestly, product has been rock solid with very few returns. How the second one was DOA is a mystery. The product has had numerous reviews (and I might point out, by sources with no advertising by us...) and has been continuously praised...check out the Awards/Reviews tab at:

Regadless, we are sorry for the hassle and perhaps disappointment you experienced. At our core, we're consumers too and definitely appreciate wanting devices/gadgets/etc. to work the way they're supposed to and deliver the benefits we desired.

While I'm sure our normal channels will ultimately resolve this for you, you have my my direct contact information should you need any additional assistance.

Sincerely,

Grant
