PMP is really popular with a lot of companies.

There's a high percentage of marketing by the educational institution that comes included with any value in these certifications. It's a tremendous revenue stream for schools.

A few years ago, I would have said that certifications do not matter at all in the computer industry, except in very low-level jobs. It's experience and know-how that sell. Good managers know how to hire good people.
Nowadays, I recommend the certifications.

Certifications are global, and standardized, and widely available to those who are qualified and/or willing to put in the work.
Degrees are local, and non-standard, and available to only a few, regardless of the school or program chosen. Each certainly has its place. The certification market certainly doesn't have the maturity that hundreds of years of college degree evolution has. Or the inertia. tenders, CFA
