That P1800 orangeish wagon is nice.
Our Olds Custom Cruiser had a 455 in it baby!!!!
I was too young to remember the performance of the Olds. But I recall talking about that engine being nice ... for a wagon, of course. My brother at the same time had a GTO. I remember bumping my head (no seatbelts) on the roof going over bumps in the backseat of that thing. Plain as day. Oh, sorry. GTO thought.

I remember my dad working on a line that made the AMC Eagle's on the fly 4wd mechanism.

Our wagon had fold flat back area, the rear window rolled UP into the roof. And the gate opened like a truck tailgate or opened hinged to the side. I do not know how they did that. I need to see on in person again. I was young. I think I remember it correctly. It had an almost jump seat type rear (3rd row) seat, too.

Yeah, 1800ES, I always wanted one of those.
That Accord hatch pictured above w/the Alfa-esque wheels looks good! (Giugiaro design treatment or some euro-version?)

I'm still waiting for a good used wagon deal to appear for me, not sure if I want to go the out-of-town eBay route.
Will prob need to be in the $4-6K range, roughly. I'm thinking either BMW 5-series (love those deep dish wheels), Audi A6 or All-road (-Maybe. but reliability??), Volvo (awful common round here), Mercedes (holds more, but they newer they are, the more boring they look -in My price range)...
Any tips or suggestions?

ps. -none of today's (even remotely affordable) designs excite me like the better ones of decades past, but I'm ready for an automobile that's not a hobby.

The real question is, how many RWD, manual transmission wagons are left in the US? Not many new ones left, not even that many used ones to begin with. For new models, only BMW comes to mind, and Subaru maybe (50/50 split, I believe, but they don't really feel like RWD). And the 5-series wagon will probably be gone soon (in the US) with the introduction of the Gran Turismo.

Myself, I drive a '01 BMW 325iT with a manual transmission and a red leather interior (got it used, must have been custom ordered by the original owner).

And in case anyone was wondering, I know the V8 All-Road can be converted to a manual transmissions in the after-market, along with the higher end Magnums. At a ridiculous price, of course.

What I have read is that they just ran out of production, but that was three months ago. Maybe they just like having short supply of a model for once.

we own a 2006 XC70, not a bad wagon at all -- really has pretty good getup and go too =)

problem with most "wagons" these days are the lack of the "wagon" part (like that A6) -- short, stubby and not a whole lot of room for anything. our XC has a 3 feet of "wagon" in back...

im not a die hard wagon fan or anything, but i think the new XC 70/70 wagons from volvo look really nice

DO what I did. Register at autotrader.com, and do a search. Then save it as an ALERT. I was FIRST in line for my car because of the autotrader alert at 5:30 am that morning. You can limit it to miles from your location, too.

Really? I don't think I've heard of anyone doing that. It doesn't make much sense either. You'd be better off getting a 2.7t with a 6mt and modding it so it out performs the V8. Stock, it's still no slouch.

I was looking at comparative stats last night, and the A6 tends to have more cargo room than other options. Without the seats folded down, it has 1cf less than your xc. With the seats folded down in both, the A6 has 15cf more.
