Let me see if I can describe this -
I always use my MBP (2.16, 10.4.11) as a "desktop" machine with an external keyboard and display (Dell 2007WFP), keeping the lid closed.
When I travel, I take the book with me, getting back, I plug everything in, boot up and everything works.
This time, getting back from a trip, I did the usual, and when the book was going to sleep, the Dell display started blinking on and off while in screensaver mode. Very bizarre. Then it went black as it usually does on sleep. (Usually, it shows "flurry for a bit and the goes dark).
It responded properly when I hit a key to wake it up, BUT now the menus act funky. When I move the curser over them, they drop down, but the choices don't highlight unless I click and hold. This is in all programs including Finder. On reboot, it acts fine for the first round until sleep. After waking up, the issue comes back.
My troubleshooting - I deleted the finder prefs, system preference prefs - no good. I tested without the display, MBP alone, it's fine, no issue. I changed the screensaver mode to "never" and went to bed.
I just booted up, checked the Apple menu and it seemed fine. Went back after doing a few things and it's not responding as described above. Never went to sleep and I have the menu issue. Sigh.
Just noticed, when I checked System Profiler with the screen CONNECTED, it shows -
Displays:
DELL 2007WFP:
Resolution: 1680 x 1050 @ 60 Hz
Depth: 32-bit Color
Core Image: Hardware Accelerated
Main Display: Yes
Mirror: Off
Online: Yes
Quartz Extreme: Supported
Rotation: Supported
Display Connector:
Status: No display connected
What's the next thing I should check/do/delete? I'm a bit beyond my troubleshooting experience, as this is a new one for me.
Thanks!
