The article that I read may have been heavily biased, hard to say, but it didn't sound like a very strong case against her to me. Maybe the burden of proof in Italy is much lower.

what was reported in a quick news blurb here was that many convictions are overturned on appeal in Italy.

ztirffritz, Knox is being crucified for the sins of the party-girl traveling college students that trample on traditional Catholic values in these little communities in rustic Italy. It feels like an operatic medieval morality play. The case was awful. The prosecution's narrative was pure fantasy. Amanda's flakey, erratic behavior and unfortunate proximity to the victim made her a convenient target for this anti-American resentment and old Testament fervor. I can't believe they actually convicted her. It's like a bad episode of "The Exorcist". I feel terrible for her parents.

Does your definition of "erratic behavior" include her flat-out lying when she accused her boss of the murder?

If anyone is interested in learning more about this, I understand the case will be reviewed on 48 Hours tomorrow night at 10 p.m. Peter Van Sant of CBS did an extensive review of this case about a year ago, including hiring a private investigator to look at the evidence the Italians had against Knox and her co-defendant. From what I remember, the evidence was pretty pathetic, but she was an extremely unpopular young woman in Italy, much of the reason being her party girl type behavior.
