Anybody ever try putting a QuadCore in a Mini or iMac?

Just wondering.....

Seems like an obvious thing to at least try. You'd have to augment the ventilation, for sure, if the firmware would let it work.

The minis with removable processors do not have the correct pin layout for any available quad core processor. Dunno about the iMacs.

I've contemplated trying to solder one to my new Mac mini... but every time I start to really think about it my head explodes over the sheer number the solder joints.

Sure, for the newer Mini's--I was thinking of the earlier ones.

But what about the iMacs--those CPUs aren't soldered in.
