I'm thinking of the picket fence image from (any?) camera book, that shows various parts in focus, or not, based on aperture. It's a good example because the subject matter is one we're already familiar with describing length well.

Don't worry...
I always keep my head directly behind the rear sight iris...


(and Racer; Darn right! It's amazing how clear and sharp properly adjusted rear and front sight irises can make things! Of course, it takes a lot of fiddling to get the right settings!).
