Comcast knows they've got Internet users by the ba--s here. They've raised Internet rates twice in the last 6 months and are raising rates again next month.
The choices here are Comcast at 8-12MB/s vs Verizon DSL at .5-1Mb/s.
I could (and did) cancel Comcast cable with no qualms thanks to OTA digital and Hulu, but there's no f-ing way I'm going with Verizon for Internet.
Given that in some places they pay about half what I'm paying Comcast and get 1Gbps Internet access (notably Hong Kong, according to this morning's news) this is a pretty sorry state of affairs.

You have to factor in the effects of the recession, as well.

If I were paying $130/month for TV I'd want someone to take me out back and shoot me. That's $1500/year! I've rediscovered libraries recently. They have movies, music and books there...and they're FREE. Even the craptacular library in Yakima has a decent selection of movies and music.

I'm paying just over $100 a month for TV/Internet now. Lots of good stuff but I'm thinking this is just too much, and now they (Verizon) want to increase the bill a few more $ next month. Need to call them up and work out a new deal or I may dump them... Of course the FiOS internet needs to stay and that ain't cheap.

a couple kids in the house (or worse yet, in-laws) and NOT having cable and a bunch of TVs might get ya voluntarily out back.

Dumped the cheap cable (only $10/month for channels 2-16) for OTA last month.
About 12 channels total counting sub-channels w/ a cheap indoor antenna (I'll eventually put a better one in the attic)
Told the kids it was back to the 1970s for them!
Remember, OTA is still the best quality HD for network channels (cable & satellite compress their HD offerings)

Would love to dump Comcast cable. But, only about 3 channels even remotely possible to get OTA. I could erect a 50'+ antenna mast to get above local terrain, and with a deep fringe antenna and rotator could possibly pick up another half dozen channels. So, for now since about half the shows I watch are not from OTA channels, I have to stick with cable.
More of the shows I watch are showing up on Hulu or other streaming sites, but a significant number still do not. I recently upped my DSL speed with Verizon, now I get 6.4 mbps downloads on a 7.1/768 service for $40 a month. Makes streaming video more usable when I can find the shows.

My parents live in an OTA signal dead zone like some others here, FM as well. So they're stuck with cable.
That sucks.

I'm curious as to how much some of you spend on going out to eat per year or on vacations?
I think my cable w/HD and an HD-DVR and a couple movie channels, high speed internet and
unlimited nationwide home phone is like $140/month.
