OWC: *New iMac models do not have universal manufacturer compatibility...really?

Just noticed this when I was on the OWC website looking for ram for my new iMac.

"Hard Drive Upgrade Options Featured for iMac*
Easy to Upgrade your iMac (October 09) Hard Drive

*New iMac models do not have universal manufacturer compatibility, use the steps below to choose the hard drive right for your machine. "

I am taking this to mean that you can't just put any Hard drive you want in the new iMacs and you have to pick the same manufacturer as what was originally installed???? Is that really the case? Anyone from OWC have the scoop on what that statement is supposed to mean?

I wonder if it's a physical dimensions issue, I see to recall someone from OWC mentioning that a certain brand hard drive wouldn't work in some application due to a physical clearance problem. Maybe the iMac has a similar constraint.

Wow. Just what people need. Another point of confusion on upgrades: differing pinouts for thermal sensors in drives.

I am really surprised that Apple and the drive manufacturers allowed this to happen.

Bet this will be an issue for the new MacBooks too.

I'm amazed at how little attention this has gotten. I would have thought that I would have heard about it a long time ago... So much for the idea of upgrading to a 2TB. Only one that works is an eco drive...no way I am putting one of those slow piles of crap in a quad core iMac. I was thinking an SSD might be fun too....
