Cheap places to stay in SF
#1
Looking at attending a course that's not offered in Chicago (mid-July).
Any options for not-crazily priced lodging near the city center?
thx . . .

Alcatraz, if you're caught overnighting they just boat you out.

Thanks. The course is being held "2 blocks from Union Square." Is that walking distance?

Union Square is the heart of the tourist area. I can't help you re cheap hotels but there are some reasonable places around there. For a bit more fun but a longer walk you might want to try closer to the North Beach area. I'd suggest that you post on the non-political side...you might get more responses.

Unless by "course not offered in Chicago," he really means the Folsom Street Fair.

If you stay at the Cornell hotel on Bush, it's a little farther to the fair, but as consolation, there used to be a gay theater a couple of doors up the street. Kidding aside, it's a reasonable, family run place that I've stayed at in the past and would recommend.

To be political, I'm remembering the Bloom County 'Meadow Party' convention that was held in SF. Bill the Cat and Opus stayed in a hotel on Castro street.

Milo: "What do I tip the bellboy ?" (Bellboy was a leather-bedecked sub,)
Owner: "Just stomp on his head. He loves it !"

Staying on Union square is hit and miss. it's a big area...

try priceline via http://www.biddingfortravel.com I frequently get the Hyatt or Hilton and even the following hotel for under $90:

http://www.starwoodhotels.com/lemeridien...rtyID=1957

Le meridien is a beautiful hotel.

if you want to go grunge / funky, try:

http://www.beresford.com/arms/default.htm

funky, weird hotel with a "wine and cheese hour" featuring crappy wine and slices of cheddar and keebler crackers. It's hysterical.

enjoy
