U2 fans - get ready to pay a LOT for the Uber edition of Achtung Baby

Huh

I like U2 and I saw them on their last tour, but this is absurd.

The most I paid for music was this set:

when there was a Gold Box sale for $199 (or less than $3 a disc). I do like U2 but I will take Miles Davis any day.

I'd love this recently announced Smiths box (as it's the first time it's been done properly). Shame of it is it's offered currently at £249!!! It's glorious and as they're "my band", I should sell a kidney for it but I just can't find anyone to help remove it at a reasonable price.

Why not do this for Joshua Tree?

Achtung Baby doesn't even compare.

The ironic thing about box sets is that they are aimed at a very specific group, the hardcore fan, who is more likely than not to have some of this music already. The casual fan wants a "greatest hits" of the "best" album of the band, and I doubt would shell out $300+ for the "deep" tracks (let alone $660).

Thanks for reminding me about Joshua Tree - am listening to that now.

I also like the Smiths, but for £249 (almost $400 US), I cannot justify it. Heck, the U2 and Smiths albums combined would be over $1k, and I would rather put that money toward a trip with my wife. Smile

"Band members sold separately."

The Miles Davis box, definitely worth it. You can listen to that the rest of your life and it'll never wear out its magic.

The Edge and Bono....meh...way over-hyped in my book...they have to put on a big "!!!SHOW!!!" because the music is just not there. It really isn't.

Your opinion is your opinion, but in 50 years nobody'll give a rat's pattoot about U-2...but they'll still be buying Miles...and all the be-bop guys and Ellington, and on and on...

And that's your opinion.

I'd mostly agree with you, but Joshua Tree is quite good.

Should we get off your lawn now?
