WTDY 1670 drops Glenn Beck Show
#1
I found this interesting after the previous thread

The Madison, Wisconsin, radio station that dropped Glenn Beck's program this week issued the following statement to Media Matters when asked why the decision was made:

WTDY can no longer carry the Glenn Beck program. Over the last 12 months, the show has devolved into plugs for Fox News (the radio version of which is aired by our direct competitor), his books, and other personal endorsements. The lack of actual content becomes more apparent daily. Monday's program was the final straw; his unabashed deriding of Madison is unacceptable for broadcast in our community.

I listened to him a few days ago and it seemed like I had turned to a church on the radio show. Very strange.

Prepare for screams from the right of censorship and violation of First Amendment rights. Most of the people who run around waving the Constitution in our faces don't know diddly about what it actually says.

I agree. I am sure this was also a financial decision. Beck's numbers must be low and maybe sponsors are dropping him too.

A quote from Mark Twain is in order. Wasn't it last year that he was going to go kaput because of advertisers boycott? Everyday some company was dropping out. Last I checked he was still on. Oh, about those ratings, Beck's radio show is 3rd behind Hannity and Limbaugh. His TV show has 2.056 mil vs. Matthews 736,000. Anybody posting if his show about to be cancelled?

Happy pipe dreams....

Actually. ..and not surprisingly..your facts (again) are wrong

http://www.businessinsider.com/for-the-f...ews-2011-2

"Year over year he posted the biggest loss of any cable news show averaging 1.8 million viewers, down 39% from January 2010. In 25-54 demo he dropped 48%, to 397,000.
Becks ratings have been struggling all month. And by struggling we mean he as been consistently below the 2 million total viewers mark. A first.
Last April a big deal was made when Beck's ratings tumbled from 2.9 in January to 2.1 in April. They rebounded over the summer (as evidenced by his well-attended rally) but dropped again in October when he slipped behind Bret Baier for the first time.
Still, 1.9 is a drop from his October average of 2.9 million."

Nice try though, Dakota. "Pat on head"

Don't play the percent game. I gave you actual viewers. If you are number 3, you are number 3. So the tingly legs Matthews with a third of the ratings stays and Beck goes? Not in a free market. Sorry.

Radio is a BUSINESS. If you're selling a product that is not making you money, you stop selling the product.

For this station, Beck's show is the equivalent of a pharmacy selling condoms marked 'size tiny'.

That would explain why FOX is subsidizing his show despite abysmal (for them) ratings?
