I just looked over it quickly in Illustrator and it looks like some of the scanned text was converted to bitmap in Photoshop to sharpen it up. The background was obviously dropped in and that was noticeable at first glance.

Yeah, they should have scanned it and left it untouched. Somebody just got their new CS5 and wanted to show off.

No, I believe the way the White House tried to prove authenticity was particularly dumb. By deciding to show the document Obama legitimized inspection of his birth certificate so that issue is off the table. What did they actually release? A pdf document with multiple layers that changes in content, color and look by clicking around. Is this anyway to instill confidence? Then what was this charade of flying someone over there to "bring" back the birth certificate? Email should work just fine.

Just say it was a dumb idea on the part of White House and be done with it. Quit torturing yourself. Releasing a stinking birth certificate has devolved into discussions of pdf, layers, Illustrator, Adobe and photoshop. At least nobody is asking about dates and places.
