I am now a fan of Handbrake. A big fan (in fact, too big... I need to get back to the gym! Ba-dum-Bum...).
If I can find anything to complain about, it's that it's not exactly fast... at least not on my 2.8ghz Core 2 Duo 24" iMac...
Sure does make a nice Rip of a DVD to put on my iPad though... it surely do.
SO: consider this a "Tip" - Try Handbrake for your DVD ripping and video conversion needs.

You were too busy experimenting with the different effects temporal shifts have on various perishable food products?

That could be part of it, yeah...
There was also about a year when I had a crapload of stuff Tivo'ed, and had suspended my Netflix... so I had no DVD's that needed rippin'....

Maybe you missed the Handbrake threads on here because they disappeared too soon under nonsensical threads?

Nah.. I was actually about to comment that I had posted an example for you to follow.... If you want to see more of a topic-type, post some of it yourself!
I'm off to the second page now, to follow up some posts...

I've used Handbrake to rip DVDs before, but recently had some .dv files that I wanted to convert to a smaller format (they were about 6 gigs each--created by my Canopus AVDC box while digitizing some VHS videotapes!).
Handbrake handled the conversion really well. I was able to put the files in a "queue" and then just hit start, and they were all converted.

I started using it religiously within the last year, too. Used to use MTR for everything but since they went all douchey, I was happy to switch. No complaints here.

what presets were you using on your Handbrake?
Since I have iPad-2 and AppleTV-2, I have been using the AppleTV-2 Preset on Handbrake. Works well, carries the 5.1 across with the RIP too.
I actually use an old 1.5 GHz G4 MacMini to keep all my ripped movies on as in iTunes Movie server. The MacMini certainly does not have the horse power to play them to a monitor. But, it streams them really well for the iPad and the Apple TV! ;-)

Ummm... does anyone still read books?
If I had access to a bunch of movies, I'd never have time to read.
