recommend an outdoor projection screen - or improvisation thereof
#1
I am projecting some DVDs outdoors but don't have a screen, other than the old standby of a white sheet. The size will be about 100" diagonal, but could be smaller. Since there will probably be a slight wind, I don't want a white sheet. Any ideas on materials, heavier than cotton, that may be useful? I'm willing to spend $100 or so for it which may buy something.

Once upon a time, I was involved in doing this for a city and we used a giant air-filled screen but that is a bit out of my league for this situation.

Silver tarp. Harbor Freight. If you're worried about wind, a soldering iron will let you melt a bunch of small holes in it that will *help* (but not a heck of a lot). Of course stabbing ten thousand holes will take a lot of time. You may find that the holes will fill the Albert Hall.

Not $100, but there are a bunch of this type available http://www.walmart.com/ip/Deluxe-Outdoor...en/7983503

Is there a reason you can't attach a sheet to something stiff? A 4x8 sheet of expanded polystyrene insulation gives you more than 100" diagonal and doesn't cost much. You could attach the sheet permanently with 3M 77, or just wrap it tightly and duct tape the edges to the back.

funny, I was thinking of a big sheet of fome-cor or something like it but they are $$$ that size - and not many places carry it.

I could, however, get something inexpensive like luan in 4x8 and wrap it in white. thanks for the brain hurdle.

Wait, I just realized you shouldn't use 3M 77 on styrofoam, unless you want to turn it into a sticky puddle. So scotch that idea. Heheheh, get it?

......just make sure that the SHEET doesn't hit the fan....
